On Racism
by: Kelly Brzak
Does anyone else want to talk about racism and how specific observable and therefore measurable behavior/s perpetuate it STILL?
If we can define something, we can measure it. If we can measure it, we can reduce it and replace it, right?
Ex:
Target behavior: reductionist comments
Replacement behavior: empathy statements OR validation of experience statements
Glossary of Terms:
Cognitive Dissonance
Colonialism
Culture of Power
Driving While Black (DWB)
Euro-Centric
Gaslighting
Institutional Racism

New Beginnings (06/27/25)
My last day of teaching 3rd grade ended up not being for the summer, but for good. Little did I know giving up my life long dream to be an inner city school teacher would lead me down a path toward incredible reward. Learning about and applying Behavior Analysis has changed me profoundly. I hope to share some of its' magnificence with you.

Trauma Informed (Self) Care 06/14/25
How many of you have experienced work-related trauma?
Here's a brief on my story: 3 years ago, I was taken to the ground and then kicked in the face by a client.
It fractured my cheek in two places. My ego was shattered into about 6 million pieces.
The workman's comp appointed ENT commented: "What were you thinking? You could have died."
These are words no mother needs to hear. (Especially after warding off mom vs. career woman guilt since my oldest was born 17 years ago.)
FLASH FORWARD, I am FINALLY re-emerging and I'm more empowered to affect systemic change than ever before.
What does my trauma informed self care look like in action?
I'm acknowledging and replacing self-doubt and fear with renewed passion and advocacy-one observable and measurable external event at a time! <3<3<3
It was SO FUN to stand in as Secretary at the SEBA meeting today. :)

Enough is enough 12/14/24
I FINALLY filed my LLC paperwork. It's about dang time!! I have personally and professionally had enough. Enough being trapped within a system that dictates limitations. Enough accepting burnout as a status quo (both for myself and my brilliant colleagues). Enough being able to "help" only according to what will stack the pockets of corporate giants. Enough hearing experience after experience from caregivers about a lack of support from colleagues in my field who are likely suffering from clinical burnout. I FINALLY filed my LLC paperwork and CAN'T WAIT to see what transpires...
